Make Your Own Lemon Soda

You can make a bubbly lemon or orange soda that is tasty enough to drink.

You need:
  • a lemon or orange
  • a large glass
  • water
  • sugar or some  other sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 ml)

What to do:

Squeeze the juice from a lemon or orange and add an equal amount of water. Stir in a teaspoon of baking soda. Taste and add sugar if you like.

What happens:

The liquid will be bubbly and taste like lemon or orange soda.

The bubbles are carbon dioxide gas formed when you combine the base (the baking soda) with the acid (the lemon or orange juice). The bubbles in real soda are also created by carbon dioxide, added under pressure to water and a flavored sweetener.

Be careful not to get the lemon juice or vinegar in your eyes, it will burn
